| Sterling Shuey Funck, 89, of Enola passed away on July 31, 2013 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Born in Palmyra, PA on June 18, 1924, he was the son of the late George Milton Funck and Tillie Amanda Shuey Funck. He was a long time member of the Enola Emmanuel United Methodist Church and in his younger years was an active volunteer in the Enola Citizens Fire Company. Sterling was retired from the Shiremanstown plant of the Ralston Purina Company. Sterling was a very proud WWII Combat Veteran of the United States Navy. He primarily served aboard the USS CALVERT APA-32 as a landing craft coxswain, achieving the rank of Boatswain Mate 1st Class. Sterling took part in the amphibious landings in North Africa, Sicily, and then in the Pacific during the Gilberts, Marshalls, and Marianas Campaigns. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two service stars, and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal with two service stars. Sterling was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Luella Jean Pierce Funck, and two sisters, Fern Orehek and Eleanor Munz, along with their respective spouses, Frank Orehek and Stewart Munz. He is survived by his sister Marlene Blauch and her husband Lester Blauch. He is survived by two sons, Gary P. Funck and his wife Jennifer H.R. Funck and Steven S. Funck and his wife Jean S. Funck; 7 grandchildren: Christian Funck, Laura Rineer, Barbara Book, Adam Funck, Edward S. (Kristen E.) Funck, Carol (Mark G.) Funck, and Scott S. Funck; and 5 great-grandchildren. |
